Someone Somewhere Saying
A Family Ministry at Newville Church
By Teresa Davis, MA, PCC-S

Anytime I see something that lifts up families and the amazing love that
binds them, I take great delight in it! And I see these things everywhere. I am Teresa
Davis, a licensed Professional Clinical Counselor with a private practice called
Ontario Counseling Center in Mansfield, Ohio (ontariocounselingcenter.com). I also
teach Marriage and Family Counseling in the Midwest Counseling Program at
Ashland Theological Seminary. I have been married to a good man for 37 years, and
I have four sons. I am privileged to worship in a beautiful little country church in
Bellville, Ohio, called Newville Church (newvillechurch.com), where my
husband, Tim, is a teaching pastor. Please join me in my periodic entries under the
title Someone Somewhere Saying where I will share some of the powerful truths God
reveals to me as I enjoy the privilege of sitting with people—individuals, couples
and families—who are navigating through some pretty tough times. I remember my
husband sharing with me years ago about the concept of court sense in basketball. I
experience this, too, I think, in my work with my clients. It happens when a fuller
awareness of the beauty and truth in any situation, no matter how difficult it may be
at present, begins to settle in my imagination. I get a sense of something bigger,
better, and brighter that speaks to me from the quiet center of the chaotic episodes
of life. It is always my hope that I will be able to share what I see with my clients,
whether it is poured into a purely clinical intervention or a more spiritual one. I see
this as God’s call on my life, and I would love to respond to that call, at least in part,
right here in this space.

Nehemiah exhorts a Second Temple community of God’s people: Do not be
afraid of our foes! Think of the great and awesome Lord, and fight for your brothers,
your sons and daughters, your wives and homes! (Nehemiah 4:8). Indeed I will! I
hope you will join me in this new Family Ministry at Newville Church, a Christian
Fellowship.
